BEGINNINGSThis organization started with the efforts of seven Savannah artists who began exhibiting an all-ceramics show in 2011. The group includes nationally recognized artists who come from various backgrounds and exhibited together under the title of “Savannah Clay.” The goal of the exhibition was to bring awareness to the high quality ceramic work being made locally and to introduce the community to the wide range of possibilities of clay—from functional, to figurative, to abstract sculptural installation. Savannah Clay Community was formed in 2015 by founding coordinator Mitzi Davis who put in the hard work to organize us as a group to further develop, assist and increase opportunities for all emerging and professional artists, in addition to encouraging and educating the community in its creative endeavors in clay. Current coordinator Jessica Broad continues this mission with the aid of our growing membership.

MISSION
Savannah Clay Community builds strength and support for all ceramicists and people with an interest in clay in Savannah through the education, exploration and promotion of the ceramic arts.
VISION
Our vision is to transform Savannah, GA, into a city devoted to the ceramic arts.
VALUES
The arts are a vital part of any community. Savannah has a growing art culture with many viable markets to support the ceramic arts. Savannah Clay Community believes that the ceramic arts spark curiosity, bolster cultural understanding, provide diverse insights, stimulate healing and prosper economies. We value and seek to fulfil the following:
- We promote the joy of the clay and engage with our city and its residents to cultivate an audience who appreciates the ceramic arts.
- We support and celebrate local ceramic artists and connect them with resources and relationships that encourage a creative economy.
- We foster an inclusive, equitable and non-competitive environment for all levels of clay participants–professional artists, advocates, collectors, emerging practitioners, curators, educators, critics and all other ceramic enthusiasts.
- We aid the creative development that enables individuals to learn and recognize all forms of ceramic arts–sculpture, pottery, tile, installation, conceptual and social ceramics.
